WhatsApp introduces a new feature to remind users of unseen messages

Say goodbye to missing unread messages in your WhatsApp chats, as the app is rolling out a useful reminder notification feature to keep users on track with their conversations.

According to WABetaInfo, this new feature will be available in a future update, though beta testers can already try it with the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.25.29), now available on the Google Play Store.

Previously limited to status updates, this new chat notification feature now alerts users about unread messages from frequently contacted individuals. The app uses an internal algorithm to identify these contacts based on interaction frequency, ensuring important messages are not overlooked.

It’s important to note that this algorithm works only within the current app installation. If a user reinstalls WhatsApp, the app will need to recalculate interactions, as this data isn’t saved in backups or on the server.

The new reminder function sends notifications when a user leaves a message unread from a frequent contact. For example, if you often chat with someone but overlook their message, WhatsApp will remind you to check it.

WhatsApp aims to keep notifications relevant and unobtrusive, so users won’t be overwhelmed. While beta testers can already access the feature, it will be available to more users in the coming days.
