WhatsApp is preparing to launch a new feature similar to Instagram Stories.

Meta’s messaging platform, WhatsApp, is set to roll out a new feature similar to Instagram Stories, allowing users to tag or mention others in their Status updates.

According to tech site Gagadget, the feature will enable users to privately mention and tag others in their WhatsApp Status, unlike Instagram where everyone can see who is tagged in Stories.

Additionally, the tagged users will have the option to reshare the Status if they choose. However, WhatsApp will limit the number of mentioned users to five per Status. The platform is also introducing a “like” feature for Status, similar to Instagram’s heart button, but the likes will remain private.

WhatsApp has also announced plans to add more features to the Status and Updates tab in the coming months.

Recently, WhatsApp was also spotted testing a redesigned typing indicator for both personal and group chats. Furthermore, the platform introduced a feature that allows users to change the background or apply filters during video calls for a more personalized experience.

The new filters aim to create a fun and expressive atmosphere, while customizable backgrounds offer privacy and the ability to transport users to virtual settings like cozy cafes or stylish living rooms.
