SARAI ALAMGIR: A tragic incident unfolded in Gujrat on Sunday as two people, including a groom, drowned after their car fell into the Upper Jhelum Canal near Tibbi Tawan, ARY News reported.
The groom, identified as Raja Osama, was returning from his Walima ceremony with relatives when the accident occurred. Initial investigations suggest that the car’s driver lost control after a tire burst, leading the vehicle to plunge into the canal.
Passersby and relatives rushed to the scene, managing to pull all five passengers out of the water. However, the groom and his sister-in-law were pronounced dead at the hospital. The bride and three others were rescued and are receiving treatment, with their condition reported as stable.
The tragic incident has left the family and community in deep shock, turning a joyous wedding celebration into a heart-wrenching ordeal. Reports revealed that Raja Osama had recently returned from abroad to celebrate his wedding.
In a separate incident earlier, six people drowned when a boat capsized near Ibrahim Hyderi, Karachi, on November 25, 2024. Local fishermen explained that the passengers were en route to a fair at Bundle Island when their boat overturned in deep waters. Divers are actively searching for the missing individuals.
