A special session of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Apex Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was convened to address the security concerns in Kurram district, according to Express News.
The meeting saw the participation of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Corps Commander Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP, chief secretary, and other senior civil and military officials. An in-depth review of the current situation in Kurram district was conducted.
The committee highlighted that peace and stability could not be achieved until all bunkers were dismantled and weapons collected. However, it expressed optimism about improvements once these measures are implemented.
Both federal and provincial governments pledged coordinated efforts, with dialogue to be facilitated through tribal elders. Essential routes and roads will be reopened as conditions stabilize, ensuring the uninterrupted supply of medicines and other necessities.
Chief Minister Gandapur reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to lasting peace in Kurram, aligning with the cabinet’s directives. The decision to remove bunkers and weapons was emphasized as a pivotal step towards achieving this goal.
Naqvi, Gandapur Discuss Kurram’s Law and Order Crisis
Ahead of the Apex Committee meeting, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with CM Ali Amin Gandapur to discuss the escalating law and order issues in Kurram, which have resulted in over 130 fatalities in recent weeks.
Naqvi assured the K-P government of full federal support and stressed the need to strengthen law enforcement agencies. Both leaders paid tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism.
The Apex Committee’s discussions centered on restoring peace, ensuring the supply of essential goods, and fostering long-term stability in the region. Additionally, CM Gandapur announced subsidized wheat distribution for the residents of Kurram.
