At least four people were killed after Israel conducted airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen on Sunday, with Defence Minister Yoav Gallant asserting that “no place is too far” for Israeli forces.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) reported that dozens of aircraft, including fighter jets, targeted power plants and a seaport at Ras Issa and Hodeidah ports.
“The IDF attacked power plants and a port used for oil imports. Through these key infrastructures and ports, the Houthi regime transfers Iranian weapons to the region and supplies for military purposes, including oil,” stated the IDF.
According to the Houthi-run health ministry, four people were killed and 29 were injured in the strikes.
Israeli forces have ramped up aerial assaults on Iran-backed militias in the region, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.
Following the airstrikes in Yemen, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant tweeted, “The message is clear: for us, no place is too far.”
The strikes against the Houthis came after the Yemen-based military group launched missiles and drones at Israel over the past two days, claiming it was in “solidarity with Palestinians.”
The Houthis increased their attacks on Israel following the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was targeted by an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets into northern Israel, with the IDF confirming that 35 rockets were launched from Lebanese territory, 25 of which hit open areas near Haifa Bay, causing no injuries.
In Lebanon, there are ongoing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire with Israel. “It is clear that the Lebanese government wants a ceasefire, and everyone knows that (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu went to New York with the premise of a ceasefire, but the decision was made to assassinate Nasrallah,” stated Lebanon’s Information Minister Ziad Makary during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
