Hasan Nawaz Declared Bankrupt by London High Court in Tax Case
According to the official UK Gazette, Hasan Nawaz has been declared bankrupt in a tax dispute involving the UK’s Tax and Revenue Department. The decision was issued under case number 694 of 2023, with the London High Court’s ruling released on April 29, 2024, following the case’s filing on August 25, 2023.
Sources close to Hasan Nawaz’s legal team revealed that they are currently reviewing the court’s decision and plan to respond to it soon. The civil case was filed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) against Nawaz, with Kaur Maxwell acting as his legal representative.
British legal expert Barrister Gul Nawaz Khan explained the process in a conversation with ARY News, stating, “If an individual fails to settle their payments, the government steps in, and if no agreement can be reached, the matter proceeds to court.” He also noted the implications of bankruptcy: “Once declared bankrupt, an individual cannot serve as a director of a company, and they face significant difficulties in obtaining loans in the future.”
This ruling means Hasan Nawaz is no longer eligible to hold directorial positions in companies. The decision came a day after Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and others returned to Pakistan following their visit to the UK and Europe.
