Trump announces he won’t invite Haley or Pompeo to his second administration

WASHINGTON: Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not be invited to join President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration, the former president announced on Saturday.

“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently being formed,” Trump wrote on social media. “I greatly enjoyed and appreciated working with them in the past, and I want to thank them for their service to our country.”

Trump is currently meeting with potential candidates for his administration ahead of his January 20 inauguration. Reuters reported that he recently met with prominent investor Scott Bessent, a potential nominee for U.S. Treasury Secretary.

Haley, the former governor of South Carolina who served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, endorsed his presidential bid despite having previously criticized him during their primary rivalry. Pompeo, who served as CIA Director under Trump, was mentioned in media as a potential Defense Secretary and Republican presidential candidate, but announced in April 2023 that he would not run.

Neither Haley nor Pompeo immediately responded to requests for comment on Saturday.

During his first term, Trump made key personnel announcements through social media. In a separate announcement, he revealed that the 2025 presidential inauguration will be co-chaired by real estate investor and campaign donor Steve Witkoff, along with former Senator Kelly Loeffler.
