Trump’s Foreign Policy Aide Grenell Calls for Imran Khan’s Release in Tweet

ISLAMABAD: Richard Grenell, recently appointed as US President-elect Donald Trump’s aide for special missions, has called for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in a social media post.

Taking to X, Grenell shared a Geo News report about his appointment and reiterated, “I’ll say it again. Free Imran Khan.”

Grenell’s statement was followed by similar calls from other US politicians, including Trump’s former aide and ex-Congressman Matt Gaetz, who also urged the release of the former Pakistani prime minister.

On Saturday, Donald Trump announced Grenell, his former intelligence chief, as the presidential envoy for special missions, a role expected to focus on some of the most challenging global issues.

“Ric will work in some of the hottest spots around the World, including Venezuela and North Korea,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform, without detailing further responsibilities.

Grenell previously served as Trump’s ambassador to Germany, a special presidential envoy for Serbia-Kosovo peace negotiations, and as acting director of national intelligence during Trump’s 2017-2021 presidency.
