UN Relief Chief: Delivering Aid to Gaza Now a Near-Impossible Mission

Tom Fletcher, head of the UN’s humanitarian agency (OCHA), has called on governments to “end the cycle of violence” and “uphold humanitarian law” in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, according to Al Jazeera.

“Humanitarian work often involves operating in challenging environments, but Gaza has become the most dangerous place in the world this year, with a record number of humanitarian workers killed,” Fletcher stated.

He added that delivering aid to meet the immense humanitarian needs has become nearly impossible. “The Israeli authorities have denied over 100 requests for access to North Gaza since October 6, significantly restricting our efforts. Additionally, the collapse of law and order has led to systematic armed looting of our supplies by local gangs,” he said.
